I Stare Out of the Window
From the The New Art Gallery Walsall's press release:
Jon was commissioned to create an artwork for one of the gallery’s large-scale windows and the resulting creation can be found on the first floor of the building until the end of the year: as soon as visitors exit the lift, they’re met with a spectacle of colour and activity. A view of Walsall can be viewed through the illustration.
The interconnecting characters within the vinyl installation describe the trials and tribulations of being an artist: having an idea, juggling deadlines, burning the midnight oil, checking your emails, having a snack and perhaps cracking America (or other world superpower). The artwork was commissioned to reference the activities that take place in the gallery’s Artists’ Studio which is adjacent to the window on which the artwork is installed. Within the studio resident artists go through a similar cycle of emotions!
Installation in progress.
Draft drawings for the commission.
