Korean Subway

Can you change the way people see the world with just a pen and a piece of paper? Can you at least change your view of the world? Or at the very least, can you entertain yourself on long subway rides whilst everyone else is glued to their smart phones?

In the summer of 2013 I travelled to Southeast Asia and then Korea. Often I found myself in a place were I didn't know anyone and couldn't really talk to anyone. I didn't understand the advertising posters, street signs or what people around me were saying. This isolation forced my brain into inventing entertainment for itself. Whilst those around me were often focused on their phones in the dead-time of communting I tried to escape and create a new space to think and play in. This is the first of those projects.

By using a pen and my sketchbook I alterted my immediate surroundings, blurring the lines between my drawn world and the physical one.
